Dear Parents and Guardians,

Welcome to another school year at Wollaston School! I hope that this letter finds you well and that you and your family are enjoying the last days of summer vacation together. As always, I cannot believe how quickly the summer passes, but I must admit that once again I am eager to start another school year at Wollaston. The staff and I look forward to enhancing our already strong community and to continuing the tradition of academic excellence. We welcome many new families into our community. We look forward to getting to know each of you and your children and to working with you to create an even stronger academic foundation for all students at Wollaston.

I hope that you will join me in welcoming our new Literacy Teacher Ms. Susan Shea Connor and our new Music Teacher Ms. Katelyn Gavagan. We also welcome Ms. Alana DeBello who will be joining Ms. Peluso and Mr. Reilly on the Second Grade Team. In addition, Ms. Shao-Jen Cheng will be working as a Kindergarten Paraprofessional with Ms. Landers in Room 18.

A great deal of effort has gone into preparing our school for the upcoming school year. I would like to express my appreciation to Mr. Neil Dwyer and Mr. Jim Dwyer, our custodial team, for all of their efforts. As you have driven by the school this summer, I am sure you have seen a great deal of activity. Our new basketball court is complete. Also, a new sidewalk and entryway has been completed at the doors on Taylor Street. You will also see a new poured foundation which will eventually be additional space for food preparation in the cafeteria. New water fountains have also been installed throughout the building.

More information will be coming home in the first few weeks of school, but we ask that you will help us to ensure the safety of our students by following the drop-off and pick-up procedures. All students will enter the school through the rear doors of the school. Please follow the following traffic procedures. Highland Ave. is one way northbound from Beale St. to Brook St. for cars from 7:30-8:30 am and 1:30-2:30 pm, Monday through Friday. Please do not park on the school side of the street from the corner to the parking lot entrance. The first two spots after the driveway are also reserved for this purpose. Please do not get out of your car in the drop-off area or block the school yard entrance or any of our neighbors’ driveways. This prevents staff members from entering the parking lot and blocks traffic. All Kindergarten students will be dismissed from the Taylor Street exit doors. On days with inclement weather, students should enter their regular doors and gather in the first floor hallways. On these days, doors will open at 7:30 am. For the safety of our students, we ask that only students enter the building at this time. All parents and guests are asked to use the front door and to check in at the main office. To ensure that students are properly supervised, we ask that students do not arrive to school prior to 7:30 a.m. Please know that your cooperation is greatly appreciated.

We look forward to communicating with you and sharing all of our exciting happenings throughout the school year. Please be sure to like us on Facebook @WollastonElementarySchool. Please also contact the school office with any changes to your contact information including phone numbers or email addresses. The school office opens Monday, August 26th and our office hours are from 7:30a.m. to 2:45p.m. daily.

As you already know, the first day of school for students in grades one through five is Wednesday, September 4th. Kindergarten orientation will be held on Friday, September 6th. Kindergarten parents should have received an orientation appointment post card. If you have any questions, concerns, or need your child's classroom assignment, please do not hesitate to contact me.
